Or what I fondly refer to as …what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
[update: I'm hoping to blog the pathways, perils and pitfalls of this (mis)adventure. Stay tuned...it could prove to be useful]
This was a year long blog migration project from a DotNetNuke site to WordPress/BuddyPress/bbPress. The bbPress database had to be studied and mapped as there was little documentation. That was at the time when bbPress was being ported from a stand along forum to a WordPress plugin. The data was mapped from from the originating site to the destination site components. There were over 30 scripts and as many SQL queries written to get the job done. There were over 25,000 posts to migrate. In the process I learned SQL and a large bit of PHP.
There were several custom post types with custom meta boxes created. There are also over 14 bbPress forums and the BuddyPress activity stream is used extensively.
I had help from some amazing developers including Buddy Lindsey, Tristan Russell and Luke Crouch. I also had the support of my local web devs group Tulsa Web Devs. If you aren’t a part of local a developers group I encourage you to look into it, they were so supportive, encouraging and helpful as I worked through this project.
